Develop Business and Economic Research Centers Capacity at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions Project “BERC” has held the 10th project’s committee meeting on Tuesday 02 January 2018 in the Islamic university of Gaza, with the presence of all Palestinian partner universities; Al-Azhar University and University College of Applied Sciences concurrently with Al-Quds Open University, and Birzeit University and it was held via skype.

At the beginning, Dr.Wael Al Daya –IUG welcomed the audience at IUG and via Skype.

The meeting began with a presentation of the methodology of restructuring the budget by Eng. Amani Al Maqadma which was based on the discussion with the NEO and the project partners and was in the light of the discussion in the first field-monitoring NEO dated on 26-April-2017, the main recommendation of the NEO is to restructure the budget in reflection with the updated needs which are due to the majeure force imposed on the project.

The suggested activities after restructuring the budget were also discussed as follows:

1.      Scientific Days 

The title of this scientific days will be the "Institutionalize research groups and research centers"

These scientific days will focus on three aspects:

• Institutionalize the management of research groups

• Institutionalize the management of research centers

• The sustainability of research centers 

2.      Annual Research Colloquium

The first Annual Student Research Colloquium aims at providing Economics & Business students from participating universities with research-oriented skills. Specifically, it will help in achieving the following specific objectives:

• Gives students with an opportunity to gain public speaking experience;

• Help them Learn about student research from fields outside their own academic discipline and from other participating universities as well; and

•  Enable them experience judging methods used by professional organizations.

•  Help faculties & students engage with industry-specific research problems.

•  Help faculties strengthening their joint research efforts and coordination.

•  Help faculties strengthening their relationships with local industries 

3.      Summer School

The Methods Summer Programme offers short courses in social science research methods for students, researchers and professionals to better gather, analyse and work with data.

All our courses are delivered by experienced instructors and supported by dedicated teaching assistants. Our courses provide students and professionals with the knowledge and training in research methods and skills as used by top researchers in the field.

4.      Final Conference

This closing conference aims to disseminate the experience of national and international partners in developing business and economic research Centre. During the project lifetime, many activities were conducted to produce environment that ensures the quality of research in business and economic fields. Quality research generates the evidence needed to bridge the gap between different areas including academia and market, Palestinians and Europeans standards, and policies and practices.

The Closing Conference on the Business and Economic Research is and international conference co-hosted by the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG) and Birzeit University (BZU) with shared management by Palestinian, European, UK’s partners. This international and interdisciplinary conference will bring together a range of academics, independent researchers, and professionals to present their experience in conducting research and to explore the challenges that they face in the environment of Palestine.
